Full Circle

About this time 8 years ago, in 1999, I got a new job. I was hired with a direct mail advertising firm called Golden Mailer, and I was officially a graphic artist for a living.

I loved that job. I enjoyed my days, liked the people I worked with, and learned *tons*

On February 26, 2001, I left that job when I was first admitted to the hospital with a diagnosis of Goodpasture's Syndrome.

We all know what has happened in between that day and now.

Well, until a few weeks ago, to be precise.

I started looking for a new job, a "real" job (Sorry Suzy! LOL) that was back in my field of choice. I scoured Craigslist every morning and sent off resumes and portfolios left and right.

It's hard to explain a five year foray into a totally unrelated field, so that time I spent as a mortgage originator, looks weird on a resume for a designer.

But I digress.

So I'm scouring CL, checking out the jobs, when I see something that catches my eye "Graphic Artist for Direct Mail Advertising Comapny" Hmm, I think. I have experience with direct mail. I'm totally qualified for that job! I should send my resume!

Click on the ad and, lo and behold, not only am I *qualified* for that job, I *had* that job! Golden Mailer is HIRING!

I met with Nicole (the boss) and, I'm thrilled to say, I started back to work on Monday morning! (So sorry for the lack of updates!)

It's been almost EIGHT years since I had a "regular" job... I'm 4 days in, and I have to say, I'm really truly happy to be back. Even with my one hour, 40 mile commute (Thankfully I don't have to be in at 7am or anything, it's more like 9:30)

99% of the people I worked with back then are still around... I'm amazed at how much of the procedures are coming back to me like second nature.

I'm really enjoying my days.

So anyway, if I'm around less (for both my IRL and online friends!) it's because I'm just adjusting to my new schedule.

Jamie and I are both totally excited about what the future holds (I mean moreso than before... there was a whole lot of uncertainty there for a long time while I wasn't really working) and I promise to keep my faithful readers (all 4 of you!) updated!

And with that, I'm off to watch my Grey's Anatomy and head to bed!
